a condensed personal history

Ian Scherer is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Scherer
picked up the guitar at age 14 after 3 years of trumpet
studies. Subsequently he attended the Duquesne University
School of Music on a music performance scholarship
as well as the University of Pittsburgh School of Music with a
dual major in guitar performance / jazz composition.

During this time Scherer also studied privately with such notable artists as:

and Joe Negri (www.joenegri.com)

In 1996 Scherer relocated to northern California where he
immediately began working with a number of regional and international acts
including:

In 2003 Scherer began composing and producing soundtrack music for
Cypress Films / Showtime Network and became a member of A.S.C.A.P. The
North Bay Music Awards (NORBAYS) nominated Ian Scherer for 'Jazz Artist of the Year' in
2005, 2006, and 2007.

Scherer is in demand as a performer and currently plays frequent engagements for festivals,
clubs, recording sessions, and other
special events.
